NAMS-MOLA Annual Conference 2025

About the Conference:
The NAMS-MOLA 2025 Annual Conference is an academic event that gathers Hispanic/Latino/a/e/x (hereafter LHS+) identifying and affirming health experts and medical Spanish educators and leaders. The conference provides education centered on LHS+ health topics for physicians, health professionals, researchers, educators, and students.

This event continues the collaboration and expansion of MOLA’s Latino Health Symposium and the NAMS’ Medical Spanish Summit. The joint conference will be held over two full days to allow for expanded content and networking opportunities.

Theme: Más Allá de las Fronteras: Transcending Borders 

Objectives:

  • Health Disparities: Identify disparities and structural barriers affecting Hispanic/Latinx communitiesand propose solutions. 
  • Communicative and Cultural Competencies: Describe the impact and propose strategies for achieving language and culturally concordant care.
  • Education: Develop and implement educational strategies to promote multilingualism and culturally sustaining care, respectful of patients' language preferences and values.
  • Collaboration and Networking: Facilitate collaboration and networking opportunities among healthcare professionals, researchers, educators, and community leaders to share best practices.
  • Policy and Advocacy: Advocate for policies that enhance language access, support the integration of medical Spanish in healthcare settings, and improve quality of care for Hispanic/Latinx patients.

MOLA-NAMS Annual Conference 2024

 

Event Overview: The VIII MOLA – V NAMS 2024 Annual Conference is a scholarly gathering designed for Hispanic/Latino/a/e/x (LHS+) identifying and supporting health professionals, medical Spanish educators, and leaders. This event offers educational opportunities focused on LHS+ health issues tailored for physicians, health professionals, researchers, educators, and students.

Conference Theme: "The Healing Power of Our Roots / El poder sanador de nuestras raíces."

Historical Context and Expansion: This event marks the continuation of the MOLA Latino Health Symposium and the NAMS Medical Spanish Summit. For the first time, this combined conference will span two full days, providing more extensive content and enhanced networking opportunities.

Schedule and Format:

  • Friday, October 25th, 2024: concurrent sessions, followed by academic poster presentations and a networking reception in the evening.
  • Saturday, October 26th, 2024: plenary presentations and thematic tracks focused on Immigration, Sexual and Gender Minorities, Cancer & Chronic Diseases, and Education.

Language: The event will be conducted bilingually to accommodate a diverse audience.

The First Medical Spanish Town Hall. April 4th, 2020

With 84 registrants from 70 different institutions throughout the U.S. and 1 institution from Spain, and several wonderful outcomes:
- Phenomenal individual and institutional Engagement in the Medical Spanish Taskforce.
Identification of New Subgroups that will be formed to advance the next steps needed in Medical Spanish education.
- Increased collaboration in providing support and Spanish/bilingual materials and resources during the COVID19 pandemic.

 

The First Medical Spanish Summit (1MSS): March 22nd, 2018

This event marked the inaugural event for the Medical Spanish Taskforce. The event was sponsored by the Josiah H. Macy JR. Foundation, the National Hispanic Health Foundation, Baylor University, University of Illinois Health Sciences, The Research Institute for US Spanish, and the Commission for Healthcare Interpreters. To learn more, read this article!
